A 30-year-old man was arrested for shooting his father over a property dispute in Outer Delhi's Baba Hari Dass Nagar on Sunday night. On the same day the accused had also shot his stepmother identified as Suman Devi. She is undergoing treatment in a hospital and her condition is stated to be critical but stable. Police said the pistol used in commission of the crime was recovered from the possession of the accused.

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Digambar, who was posted in Central Reserve Police Force as a Constable but who left his job three years ago.

The police official further said that the deceased father of the accused was identified as 55-year-old Narsingh, who was a property dealer.

Police said Digambar wanted a plot of land belonging to his father to be transferred in his name and they used to have a regular verbal spat as his father would always deny this request.

"After Digambar left his CRPF job, he was not doing any permanent job but rather doing small time jobs for the property dealers in his area and adjoining places," said the police official.

On Sunday night when the father and the son again engaged in a quarrel over the property, Digambar went to his room, took out his pistol and shot his father twice at point blank range in his chest.

Surprised by the act of Digambar, his stepmom started crying for help. He fired at her as well and the bullet hit her hand.

"We heard two gunshots and immediately ran towards Narsingh ji's house. When we heard another gunshot, I immediately called the police. I don't believe Digambar would do such a thing. He always came across as a calm person. We used to hear him fighting with his father but never enquired why," said Vikrant Ojha, a property dealer, who has his office near Digambar's  house.

A PCR team reached the spot and rushed the accused's parents to the nearby hospital where doctors tried to resuscitating the father but in vain. Meanwhile, Suman Devi was put under treatment and is in a stable condition now.

"We arrested the accused and registered a case against him under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Baba Hari Dass Nagar police station. We have taken police custody of the accused," said the official.
