Vigilance Branch of Delhi Police has booked four traffic cops after a sting operation allegedly showed them taking a bribe from drivers of commercial vehicles. In a sting operation conducted by a resident of Delhi, three traffic constables — identified as Rajesh, Yashvir, Krishan from Nangloi and Subhash — posted near Zakhira Rampura Metro station, were caught sticking their mitt out.

On October 7, Delhi Police registered various cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act against these three traffic cops caught red-handed in a sting op collecting hafta from commercial vehicles. “The constables have been sent to the lines and the Vigilance Branch is further investigating the case,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Muktesh Chander.

In other case, Delhi Police also registered a case against parking touts. Chander said East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) had on September 17 cancelled a parking licence at Gandhi Nagar Pushta, but some touts were still charging Rs50 parking fee minus the slip. “After a tip-off, a police team raided the spot and found some touts charging parking fee despite the EDMC directive. As soon as the men in uniform arrived, the touts took to their heels. Chhotu Kumar Jha was caught with a bunch of keys,” Chander added.

Chander said 32 cars were also challaned for unauthorised parking and a case under section 420/419/34 of IPC was registered against the touts.
