3 SHOs land in trouble for refusing to file rape case

Three Station House Officers (SHOs) of Delhi Police were sent to lines after they not only refused to register a case of rape but also asked the victim to go to one police station to another to register her case.

The harried rape victim lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police top brass and the action against the delinquent SHOs was initiated.

There is a standing order from the Delhi Police Commissioner to register the case immediately once a rape victim approaches them. Not only that the order specifies that all cases should be registered immediately. Yet the three SHOs refused to register the case and the victim was made to run from pillar to the post for justice.

Sources said that the ordeal of the rape victim began when she first approached Punjabi Bagh police station on Monday morning alleging she had been raped.  Inspector Ishwar Singh the SHO was not present in the police station. The woman was reportedly asked to go to Nangloi police station in the name of jurisdiction. She was in for a shock when Inspector Raj Kumar the SHO asked her to go to Aman Vihar police station in Outer district. If that was enough the poor victim was again directed to go Kanjhawala police station to lodge her complaint.

Inspector Neeraj Tyagi the SHO Kanjhawal police station asked her to sit down and offered help. She had to wait there too. Exasperated after being made to run from one place to another, the victim then called up the Police Control Room (PCR) and the case was finally registered there. The case is now being investigated and police teams have been put on the job to nab the accused persons.

The victim decided to bring the matter to the notice of the Delhi Police bosses and gave a detailed account of her ordeal. Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi cracked the whip and sent SHO Punjabi Bagh, Aman Vihar and Nangloi to district police lines pending internal enquiry.
