3 pvt agencies trashed by NMC

Three private agencies responsible for garbage disposal in North Delhi have been blacklisted and slapped with a contract for termination by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC).

Following reports of poor sanitation, two notices were issued to the private agencies — Delhi Waste Management, AG Enviro Infra Project limited and Delhi Municipal Solid Waste ltd — on August 31 and September 19.

The concessionaires have been directed to respond to the notices within seven days. However, non-compliance with directions may lead to them being blacklisted and termination of the contract.

In a review meeting on Monday, Municipal Commissioner PK Gupta directed all zonal Commissioners to take stock of sanitation services in their areas and impose hefty fines on the violators.

He also took strict note of the inadequate resources available with private agencies. Officials noted that a majority of complaints pertained to door-to-door trash collection. Their vehicles have been observed as being inoperative and the garbage collection sites (dhalaos) botched up.

“Time and again, it has been brought to the notice of private agencies that unsanitary conditions have been prevailing in all five jurisdictions. Despite several reminders, no tangible improvement has been made in this capacity,” stated an official statement.

The notice said that the matter has also been discussed repeatedly in the Standing Committee meetings and House meetings of the Municipal Corporation wherein Councillors have expressed displeasure and demanded annulment of contract.

“The feedback given by the zonal deputy Commissioners also reveals that agencies do not adhere to the terms of the agreement. You (agencies) are cautioned either to improve the working within seven days or be prepared to face debarring and blacklisting,” read the notice issued by Additional Commissioner Deepak Hastir.
