A day after former additional Commissioner Renu Jagdev alleged financial irregularities in North Corporation; a three member committee has been constituted by the civic body to probe the matter.

On Tuesday, Jagdev, a 1989-batch IRS officer who was posted in the corporation alleged that 95- acre land at Khyber Pass had wrongly been allotted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) by the land and development office (l&DO).

In her letter written to Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government, Mayor of NMC and Chairman of Standing Committee, she also pointed out that the payment of Rs 110cr compensation for the acquisition of a land for the Rani Jhansi flyover, sources in the corporation said.

Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) Adesh Gupta said the action will be taken after once the investigation is over. “The committee will investigate all the issues raised in the complaint. Defaulters in this matter will not be spared, if proved guilty. We have zero-tolerance against corruption,” he said.

The committee will have three members, headed by Additional Commissioner (Engineering) S K Bhandari. Other members are Additional Commissioner U B Tripathi and Chief Vigilance Officer Deepak Purohit.

A senior official of NMC said that the land was transferred in 2004 to DMRC by l&DO that comes under Government of India. “The corporation has nothing to do with it. It is all baseless allegations and the truth will come out within one month after the committee will submit its report,” he said.

The official also said that she (Jagdev) served a long term in the north corporation but only after she made this entire allegation only after being repatriated. “In a house meeting held in March this year, directions were issued to immediately repatriate her to her parent cadre in March this year,” he said.

He also said that the corporation witnessed huge revenue losses during her tenure.

Meanwhile, questioning the decision to form a three member committee to investigate the allegations, leader of Congress party in NMC Mukesh Goel said that officials in the committee are working under the Commissioner and they won’t be able to investigate the matter fairly.

He demanded that the investigation against the Commissioner should be done by an independent agency. “Corruption at the top level could not be possible without the involvement of BJP leaders, who are pulling the strings from the back,” Goel said.
