Power discom BSES has empowered around three lakh women in the past four years under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, a company spokesperson said.  BSES’ CSR programmes imparted training in five main categories including education, energy conservation, health, sanitation and self defence.

A BSES spokespers said that the CSR programmes are carefully designed in consultation with intended beneficiaries. “We regularly undertake impact assessment studies in the field to gauge the feedback from the residents and tweak the programmes depending on the ground conditions,” he said.

The official also said that the discom also provided training to over 54,000 women from the underprivileged sections of the society under its adult literacy and vocational training category.

He further said that the discom has ensured well-being of over 46,000 women by organising free health, eye-care, cancer detection and tobacco de-addiction camps.

Concerned with the increasing issue of safety of girls (and women), BSES is imparting self-defence training in schools. So far, over 6400 girls have been imparted trainings through our partners - Delhi Police and Trident Solutions (an agency run by a former SPG commando), he said.

Apart from this, BSES is also organising sports tournaments (Volleyball and Kabaddi) to unearth talent in the rural areas in our licensed areas, he said.

He further informed that a sanitation drive is being carried out by the discom in which students of over 175 schools are being trained on issues like personal hygiene and sanitation.
