Delhi Police arrested two persons and apprehended a juvenile for allegedly robbing and killing a 60-year-old jeweler inside his shop in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh in April. Police said that the accused targeted the victim because they thought he would be an easy target owing to his age. They were following him from the last few months and had even found out about his relatives in Amritsar and other places, police said. The body of Ravinder Kapoor was found in his shop on April 30 with his hands and legs tied and with a tape over his mouth.

The accused had chosen to kill him on Sunday since they were aware there would be few staff members in the shop.

“We procured the CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the spot and nearby areas, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa.

Police said that while analysing the footage, it was revealed that four people were seen entering the building just before the time of incident. The footage was shared with the shopkeepers and resident of the nearby areas.

The team got a lead while analysing the CCTV footage and records of criminals involved in previous cases. They zeroed in on one Sanjay, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana. A trap was laid and he was nabbed along with his accomplice Sahil alias Sanky from Sonipat, said the officer. A juvenile was also apprehended from Sonipat this morning. The fourth accused, Sanjay Chawla, is on the run. During interrogation, it was found that Sanjay had come in contact with Chawla while they were lodged in Tihar jail around two-three years back.

Both of them decided to work together and after they were released from jail, they cheated many jewelers in Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh area. Chawla had knowledge about the jewelers of Karol Bagh and Chandni Chowk and he targeted Kapoor because of his age. On the day of incident, Sanjay, Chawla, Sahil and the juvenile went to Kapoor’s shop on two motorcycles. They went upstairs to his shop where he was present alone. Kapoor died due to suffocation as they tied his hands and legs with ropes and put a piece of cloth in his mouth and put tape on it. Then, they robbed the jewellery articles kept in the shop. In the meantime, his servant Bhagirath came there and the accused tied him up also and decamped with jewellery. Some of the robbed articles have been recovered, police said.
