Three charred bodies were found under mysterious circumstances in a rented accommodation in South Delhi’s lodhi Colony on Friday, according to police.

While the relatives of the deceased claimed murder conspiracy and alleged the landlord to be the culprit, the Delhi Police is waiting for the post-mortem report to substantiate the nature of death.

The deceased were identified as Sandeep, Ganesh and Gaurav  aged between 18 and 24 years and residents of lodhi Colony’s Sewa Nagar. “Sandeep was living in Railway Colony of the area with his family for one year while Ganesh and Gaurav were his friends,” said a police officer.

While Sandeep and Ganesh are natives of Nepal, Gaurav was a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. They often used to party and consume alcohol together, said police.

Police officials said the trio was drug addict and prima facie appeared they were burnt due to fire that took place when a beedi fell on the plastic sheet lying on the floor while they were sniffing drugs.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the trio barged on to the terrace of the apartment and started sniffing drugs, said official, adding, “One of them allegedly lit a beedi that fell on the plastic sheet after which the room was gutted in the fire. On primary investigation it can be said that they were high on drugs and couldn’t escape the fire.”

Ganesh’s wife Deepa told police that he left his home to repair his mobile phone but when he did not return, she thought of approaching  police. However, she visited Sandeep’s home along with her sister.

“They found out that the gate of the terrace was locked and hence her sister jumped over the wall to find out a semi-opened room… Deepa further said that they recovered three bodies lying on the floor,” said the officer.

According to police officials, the bodies were recovered by Ganesh’s wife Deepa. However, the sequence of events can’t be ascertained yet.

A case has been registered in lodhi Colony police station and further investigation is underway.
