Fed up with her husband’s drinking habit, a 27-year-old woman, a nurse at Apollo Hospital, committed suicide at her rented accommodation in East Delhi’s West Vinod Nagar area on Tuesday morning. Yabreena was found hanging from a ceiling fan along with her one-and-a-half year old daughter. However, police found no suicide note.
Police said that the incident came to light at around 8.30 am when Abhi Kumar Singh (25), husband of Yabreena returned home after a get together at his cousin’s house. Abhi is allegedly a habitual drinker. He and his wife used to fight over his drinking habit which is suspected to be the reason for the Yabreena’s suicide, police added.
“When Abhi came home, he found the door was locked from inside. Despite knocking the door several times, his wife did not open the door. It was then that he forcefully opened the door and found his wife and daughter hanging from a ceiling fan in their bedroom,” said a senior police investigator.
Police said that Yabreena used to work as a nurse at the Apollo hospital in Sarita Vihar while Abhi used to work as a manager in a luxury car showroom in Preet Vihar.
The victims identified as 27-year-old Yabreena and her minor daughter Yebshel.
Yabreena’s neighbours told The Pioneer that although the woman and her husband did not interact with them on a regular basis yet they invited everyone to the first birthday party of their daughter Yebshel. “They invited all the family and friends for a grand party at V3S mall. The couple seemed happy,” said Suresh Joshi, a neighbour of the deceased woman.
Omvir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East district, said “Madhu Vihar police received a PCR call around 9 am on Tuesday regarding suicide of a woman and her daughter. Police reached spot and sent the body for post-mortem. No suicide note was recovered from the spot and both the gates of the house were locked from inside.”
locals living the D block of West Vinod Nagar claimed that the couple had moved along with their infant daughter seven to eight months back.
“Abhi and Yabreena shifted to their D-Block West Vinod Nagar flat around 6 months back. Yabreena is a nurse and Abhi works a manager at Preet Vihar-based car showroom. They have hired a maid for their daughter as Yabreena reached home at around 7 pm daily after completing her duty. The relation between husband and wife was not good. They fought a lot on many issues and they did not like to talk to their neighbours as such,” said Suresh Joshi, Abhi's neighbour.
“Abhi belongs to Kanpur and Yabreena was from Chhattisgarh. Abhi's father and mother live in Kanpur. Yabreena did not have parents. She only has a brother who lives in Delhi. The post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday,” said a senior police officer.
