The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the sensational case in which Delhi Police constable recruitment exam’s question paper was leaked in May 2014 with the arrest of 27 people from four States.

The four-month-long investigation also revealed that the question paper, which was circulated among the clients through WhatsApp, was leaked from a printing press. Every client had paid Rs5 lakh to Rs6 lakh for the paper. Police had initially thought that a local module was behind the leak but as investigation went on, several layers emerged spanning through Bihar, Delhi, Haryana and UP.

“It was revealed that the Delhi-NCR module was further divided into three sub-modules, one based at Najafgarh, second at Sonepat/Rohtak and third at Rewari, Haryana. During investigation, 18 people were arrested in the Sonepat/Rohtak module and Najafgarh sub-module. Four persons were arrested from a UP-based module while two persons were arrested from Rewari,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

It was in the school premises at a village in Rewari that the candidates numbering about 90 were made to solve the question paper. It was at this stage of investigation that the question paper was found to have physically emerged but the source was yet to be identified. The investigation from Rewari led to the main module and kingpin based in Bihar. It was discovered that some persons from Bihar had brought the question paper to Rewari, which led police to Vikas Chander Bose. When Bose was arrested, he revealed that the paper was provided to him by Amar.

On Monday, Amar, a key member of this syndicate and a resident of Bihar, was nabbed from Minto Road in Delhi, which finally put the Crime Branch on trail of the printing press from where the paper was leaked. “Amar revealed that Gorakh Nath, an employee of the printing press, had procured the paper and given it to him following which he too was arrested. He disclosed he was employed at the cutting machine of the printing press, where the question papers were being cut and sorted. He managed to get hold of a question paper and after hiding it inside the shoe, smuggled it out of the printing press,” added Yadav.

The syndicate is a conglomerate of coaching centres, touts, school teachers, property dealers, procurers, analysers, solvers, etc, who are all well-educated and connected, since it is a highly lucrative business.
