The transport department has fined 232 polluting vehicles from January 1. The department has also seized 38 other vehicles which had no fitness certificates. Assistant Regional Transport Officer (enforcement) Rajesh Singh of Noida said, “We have been taking action against polluting vehicles under continuous enforcement drive.”

The ARTO said people are shifting towards CNG vehicles after odd-even rule in Delhi. “We have found that some people illegally fitted CNG kit in their vehicles to enjoy the exemptions. We have fined 44 CNG vehicles which had illegally fitted CNG kit. They also had no fitness certificates which are the violations of permit norms,” Singh said. The transport department has asked the ARTO to conduct enforcement drive of the authorised pollution checking centers to ensure they follow standard norms and practices in a one month drive.
