A 23-year-old man entered the house of lieutenant General AR Prasad by breaking the back door of his bungalow and was planning to steal the brass taps of the senior Indian Army officer's bathroom but his intentions were foiled by an Army Corporal who was on patrolling duty at the bungalow.
A senior police officer said, the accused identified as Sachin alias Ajay who lives in Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, had entered the lieutenant General’s house at 4 Ashoka Road at around 6.30 am on August 24.
Ranvijay Kumar, a corporal posted at the Indian Army Headquarters, was doing rounds at that time in the bungalow.
"I was on patrolling duty for two hours. When I went towards the backside of the bungalow, I saw a man who broke open the main back gate of the bungalow and was about to enter the house. When I shouted, the man got scared and tried running but I caught up to him," said Ranvijay adding, " I started questioning the man but he was not saying anything. On further questioning he identified himself as Sachin and said that he had trespassed in order to steal the brass bathroom taps and sell them in the market."
Ranvijay thereafter made a call to the police and a team of police personnel reached the spot, took down the complaint, brought the accused to the police station and kept him in custody.
Based on the complaint of Ranvijay an FIR under Section 451 (House-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of the IPC was registered.
