A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend in Delhi's Alipur area. Missing since Monday, the body of the victim was found from Alipur on Tuesday morning, police stated.

The accused identified as Jitender was allegedly caught after he activated his deceased girl friend's SIM card to go through her call records. Police officials traced the SIM to Burari and nabbed the accused on Wednesday.

According to police, the 17-year-old girl was missing since Monday and her parents registered a missing case at Burari police station on the same day. A body was recovered by Alipur police station on Tuesday and after police scanned through records of all unidentified bodies and missing person complaints, the girl was identified.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were in a relationship. The victim reportedly wanted to break-up which led to an argument. The accused called her to Alipur to resolve their differences, however could not reach a common ground, police revealed.

In a fit of rage the accused allegedly dragged the girl to the bushes and strangulated her. He even punched her face a few times so that she won't be identified, police said, adding that they are still investigating the matter.

A preliminary probe ruled out sexual assault, but senior officers said that they are awaiting the autopsy report for further details.
