The special lok Adalat of BSES Rajdhani Power limited (BRPl) in association with Delhi State legal Services Authority (DSlSA) has settled 2,135 power theft cases with a value of Rs20 crores. The lok Adalat was organised in the premises of District Court, Saket. With its green approach, the adalat also saved over 30,000 A4 sized sheets.

In response to consumers’ requests, BRPl in association DSlSA had organised this two-day ‘special’ lok Adalat on Saturday December 10 and Sunday December 11. The adalat provided BRPl customers/ litigants residing in South and West Delhi , a one-time opportunity, for an amicable and on-the-spot settlement of their power theft cases, relating to both Direct Theft (DT) and Meter Tampering (DAE). Cases that were either pending in any Court of law or are yet to be filed in any Court of law were taken up by the adalat.

BRPl and DSlSA took special care to make this lok Adalat a paperless one. There were no physical movements of files. All relevant case documents were accessible from the 24 computers that were deployed for the purpose.

Commenting on its unprecedented success, BRPl spokesperson said, “Customers, whose cases were settled, have been given sufficient time to pay. Infact, BRPl has adopted a very humane approach in this regard. looking at the financial position of the customers/ litigant, BRPl has even allowed some to pay in 3-4 installments”.

“The exercise was a win-win for everybody. For the customers, it meant an opportunity to amicably settle their cases and an escape from a prolonged and an expensive legal process. For an over-worked judiciary, it meant some burden off their courts. For BSES, it meant, more people coming into the billing net”, added the spokesperson.

BRPl and BYPl are premier distribution companies and Joint Ventures between Reliance Infrastructure limited and Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).

People from various walks of the society such as industrialists, businessmen, professionals and even domestic consumers made a beeline for the lok Adalat.

From those owning flashy cars to those riding bycycles — all consumers arrived at the venue to have their problems solved at the adalat.
