In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old man allegedly attempted to rape an eight-year-old minor girl twice in the last one week in central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area, police said on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Asghar who lived close to the victim’s house in a rented accommodation and used to play with her regularly. He was arrested by the police on the charges of attempted rape and Sections of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Sunday morning. “The incident took place yesterday evening when on finding the girl alone, Asghar lured her to an isolated place and then tried to rape her. However, when the girl started shouting, he got scared and fled the spot,” said a police official.
The victim, who is a student of Class II, returned home and narrated the incident to her parents who in turn approached the local police station and lodged a formal complaint. As police was filing a case, the victim revealed that Asghar had attempted to rape her on the night of April 7 but then his attempt was thwarted when someone passed through the area.
