A 21-year-old man has been arrested while a juvenile has been apprehended by the South district police for the murder of a 35-year-old cook in South Delhi’s Chitranjan Park area on March 4. The accused confessed that it was due to the minor reason that they accidentally touched the cook, Dashrath Mukhia, which got converted into a heated argument and eventually led the two to kill the 35-year-old man.
Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said, “One Sunny, an e-rickshaw driver has been arrested for the murder of a cook near the Alaknanda apartments last week. Along with Sunny, a juvenile, who also stabbed the cook, has been apprehended.”
Police said that on March 4, Dashrath Mukhia, who works as a cook in Greater Kailash was waiting at a bus stand in CR park area. While he was waiting at a bus stand to go home, two men stabbed him and fled, said a senior police officer. When the local police reached the spot, they found that Mukhia, a resident of Tughlaqabad Extension, inflicted with sharp injuries. He was found near the footpath and was taken to the AIIMAS trauma center, where he was declared brought dead.
“Doctors informed us that Mukhia sustained two stab wounds on his chest. Accordingly, we registered a case of murder at the CR Park police station,” said Baaniya.
Investigations into the murder led the seven teams to prepare a list of 89 people who were suspected to be involved in the murder. A team under ACP Ambedkar Nagar led the teams. Based on the eyewitness account, police finally traced Sunny and the juvenile in the slum clusters of the Govindpuri area.
During sustained interrogation Sunny revealed that at the time of stabbing Mukhia, while he was heading to his house, he accidentally collided with Mukhia near St. George’s School footpath due to which one of the accused fell down, which led to a heated quarrel between the two. The quarrel escalated when the juvenile caught hold of Mukhia while Sunny took out a knife and stabbed him twice in the chest,” said Baaniya.
Police said that they have recovered the knife, used to stab Mukhia and the clotehs worn by the accused.
