Offering to provide gold at a cheap rate of interest, a private company in a matter of four months had allegedly duped close to 20,000 people to the tune of crores of rupees. In light of this, the Delhi Police has registered a case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the North Rohini police station.
“We have issued summons to the two directors of the Correct Step Marketing Pvt ltd to join the investigation,” confirmed a senior police official of the Rohini district.
A senior police official, privy to the investigation, said, “The matter came to the notice of the North Rohini police station on June 2 after they received a complaint from Sunil Kumar Rohilla that he along with his friends have been duped of Rs 2 lakh.”
As per the written complaint, Sunil Kumar Rohilla claimed that he got to know about the company, “Correct Step Marketing Pvt ltd” based at Rohini Sector-7 through mutual friends. “One of my friends had invested in this company. When I approached the organisation along with my other friends, the company offered us gold against cash amount of Rs 51,000 and that too at an interest rate of 1.5 per cent for a year. I along with my three friends pooled in and submitted a cheque of Rs 2,04,000 in February this year.
“Over the next few months, we gave a total of Rs 10 to 12 lakhs to the company. However, as time passed by, neither they gave us gold nor they returned the cash. When we contacted the two directors of the company, Devender Gulia and lalit Verma, they too coaxed us and asked to bring in more people to invest in the company. The duo claimed that in lieu of the money, Rs 51,000 I paid them, they had given out a cheque of Rs 51,000 against my name but the cheque bounced,” said Sunil Kumar Rohilla in his complaint.
“When we tried contacting the company, they stopped taking our calls as well as changed the official address of the company. The company has cheated 15,000 to 20,000 people,” added the complainant.
According to a senior police official, apart from Sunil Kumar Rohilla, they have received similar complaints from 16 people.
Among the list of victims who have been conned, Sunil Rohilla was cheated of Rs 86,000, Ramnath Soni with Rs 1,26,000, Rs 96000 from Arvind Shah, was Rs 57,000 from Manju Singh while Satyavir Singh was cheated of Rs 51,000.
