NCCl wants children to pore over books

In its relentless effort to inculcate the habit of reading in the country, especially among children, the National Centre for Children's literature (NCCl), a wing of the National Book Trust (NBT), organised an interactive storytelling session for school children with Prof Anvita Abbi, author and Atanu Roy, illustrator of the NBT book Jiro Mithe at its bookshop in Nehru Bhawan at Vasant Kunj. Prof Abbi told children that the Jiro Mithe is the first folktale from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands ever published. She added that it was narrated to her by a native tribal five years ago. “This folktale brings into relief the belief why the people of Andamans do not kill birds, instead regard them as their ancestors,” she said. Atanu Roy explained to children that the illustrations should synchronise with the story and a lot of research needs to be done before illustrating a story.

Sant Nirankari Mandal at Rohini organised a blood donation camp at Nirankari Satsang Bhawan in collaboration with Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital. Sant Nirankari Mandal was the chief guest.

BYPl renews alliance with IIT Delhi

With a view to enlarge the scope of network analysis and improve the quality of power supply, BSES Yamuna Power limited (BYPl) on Friday renewed its collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi for three more years. The discom claims to be working to minimise variability of services. “The BYPl will have sole and exclusive rights to use of project studies. An agreement to this effect has been signed between Arvind Gujral, CEO, BYPl and Anil Wali, Managing Director, Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) — a society by IIT-Delhi for enhancing industry-academia interactions and cutting-edge research,” said a BYPl spokesperson. “The agreement was renewed after the success of the initial agreement between the two organisations. The researches led to the development of consumer-friendly technologies like the MIDAS (Modular Integrated Distribution Automation System), REAP (Renewable Energy Assisted Pump) and DRONA — a simulator for power discom operations,” he added.
