NGO demands liquor shops’ closure every tuesday

Indraprastha Sanjeevani, an NGO, on Friday organised a rally at Jantar Mantar urging the Delhi Government to close liquor shops every Tuesday. The members of the NGO claim that all shops get a weekly day off and so liquor shops too should get one. Sanjeev Arora, president of the association, said according to Article 47 of the Indian Constitution, all Government, private markets and other working places have at least one day's weekly off, but liquor shops are open seven days a week. “Alcohol consumption has increased 400 per cent in Delhi last year. This has led to increase in crimes and accidents. On the one hand, Government is opening anti-alcohol centres, and on the other, they are giving licence to liquor shops,” said Arora.
