To quench the thirst of the wild animals the district Wildlife Department will develop 20 artificial ponds within the next year in the Aravalli hills area. The survey has already been done and after the ponds are completed the number of artificial ponds in the Aravalli will be approximately 40.
According to the officials, there is a lot of wildlife in the Aravalli hills area and it has increased exponentially in the last few years. The Wildlife Department used to fill water in almost 20 artificial ponds even though the natural ponds were filled with water. However, despite this wild animals often reach human habitats to extinguish their thirst.
Considering this, and in order to avoid further man and animal conflict it was decided that there was a need to develop additional artificial ponds. This was approved last week in a meeting of the senior officials of the Forest Department.
Some of the areas under consideration are villages of Wazirabad, Bandwadi and Kasan in the Gurugram district. Apart from Gurugram, there will also be a pond in the Aravalli hills area under the Faridabad, Nuh and Mahendragarh districts of Haryana.
Most of the wildlife lives in Bandhwadi, Wazirabad, Manesar, Kasan, Raisina, Mandawar, Bhondsi and Damdama areas of Gurugram, officials said.
“According to the plan, 20 additional artificial ponds will be made in the Aravalli hills area within the next one year. The ponds will be made in such a way so that the wildlife would be able to locate them easily,” said MS Malik, the Principal Chief Conservative Officer of the Forest Department.
