Two snatchers from Mangolpuri have been arrested, police said on Sunday. One of the two snatchers confessed that he committed these crimes to save money for his sister's marriage.
Amit Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said, "The two snatchers have been identified as Amir Siddique (24) and Sagar Singh (23)."
Keeping in mind the increasing cases of snatching in the area, on December 15, Head Constable of the Special Staff (Outer) received information that one criminal involved in several cases of snatching and theft will come at B block in Mangolpuri to sell the stolen valuables. Accordingly, a team under Inspector Sukhbir Malik (Special Staff) laid a trap near the liquor shop in B block.
"The team laid a trap at 8.30 pm. At around 9.15 pm two persons came on one cherry colour Honda Aviator Scooty and stopped near B block bus stand.
"The team nabbed the accused people with the scooty. When accused persons were asked to show the documents of scooty, they failed to give any satisfactory reply. However during sustained interrogation accused Sagar stated that he had stolen the Honda Aviator Scooty from the area of Rohini along with Amir," said Sharma.
During sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that they disclosed that they committed snatching to lead a lavish life. Further, Amir, one of the snatchers, said they were committing the crime as he was in dire need of money so as to arrange finance for the marriage of his sister.
Talking about their modus operandi, the officer said the accused targeted costly android mobile phones. Police have recovered eleven costly android mobile phones and one Apple I-pad.
