Two young sisters allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves to the ceiling fan using dupatta at their house in Outer Delhi’s Rohini Sector 23 on Wednesday afternoon.
Police claimed to have recovered a suicide note in which the sisters have blamed their brother’s wife Naina for their death.
According to a senior police official, the deceased has been identified as Seema (26) and Parul (20). Seema was a part time teacher in a private school and had done her Bachelor’s degree from Ghaziabad and her sister Parul had just completed 12th standard.
Their parents had died three years ago.
Family members of the deceased alleged that the duo had breakfast with them before locking themselves in the room. The deceased’s elder brother 32-year-old Aryan Choudhury said till 12.30 pm on Wednesday everything seemed fine.
“Both sisters had breakfast with us and then they said they wanted to go to sleep. They then locked themselves up in their separate room. After a while, I heard the two sisters arguing with each other so did not pay heed but at 2.30 pm when I knocked on their door there was no reply. I called my wife and we banged on the door and shouted out their names but they did not open the door. We immediately informed police,” said Choudhury.
Police further said the duo had gone for a trip to Haridwar a few days ago and had returned back on Wednesday morning itself. “Both sisters had gone for a Haridwar trip and had just returned on the day they had committed suicide,” said the police official.
After their parents died, the two sisters had shifted to their brother Aryan’s home who had just got married then. “A year later Aryan had a child but their marriage broke up. Soon after Aryan married a Nepali woman named Naina with whom he had another kid,” said the official adding, “We did get to know that the second wife used to have regular fights with the two sisters. She would at times taunt them saying that they overstayed their welcome in their house and was a burden.”
Another police official, on conditions of anonymity, said the two sisters might have committed suicide due to two reasons.
“One reason could be a psychological reason, where the two sisters might have been so grieved with their parent’s death that they felt they were at fault and had done ‘injustice’ whereas another reason could be their guilt for feeling like a burden on their brother. We are yet to ascertain the actual reason for suicide,” said the official.
“We are probing the incident from all angles and inquest proceedings are on. We have also recovered the suicide note and will examine and soon find out the reason why the two sisters had committed such an act,” said DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.
