A day after the Government abruptly announced “curtailment” of Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh’s tenure and appointed S Jaishankar in her place, two election rallies of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj were cancelled on Thursday. Besides, another two rallies of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were also cancelled.
The rallies of Swaraj, who had addressed two public meetings on Wednesday, were called off for unknown reasons. The BJP, or the organisers, had no idea about the reason for cancellation. Swaraj was in office on Thursday, yet she did not turn up for electioneering. After taking charge, Jaishankar met Swaraj in her South Block office. BJP has fielded senior leaders, including Cabinet and State Ministers, to campaign for the party for upcoming polls.
