DMRC shoots off letter to transport authority to expedite work
With delay in issuing of 'more cards' — an identification card to auto-rickshaw drivers, who are plying near the Metro stations — Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) shot off a letter to Delhi State Transport Authority (STA) asking them to speed up the process of issuing more cards. The meeting between DMRC and STA was held two months ago and it was decided that STA will distribute cards to auto-rickshaws by the first week of May. The card is, however, yet to be issued.
last week, the Delhi Metro shot a letter to the STA asking them to speed up the process for providing identification cards to autorickshaw owners quickly.
Senior officials of the department, however, added that the cards have not been prepared till now, as the tendering process has not been started till date. A senior official said the tendering process will start by the first week of June.
Metro officials said that 'more cards' will be an identification card for the auto-rickshaw drivers and the plan to give them the cards was taken so that Metro authorities do not face any problem in getting any auto-rickshaw as they will be supervised by the DMRC. Complaints have been pouring in that auto drivers from Metro stations charged more.
This prompted the Metro authorities to provide an identification card to the drivers, so that commuters do not face any problem.
The 'more cards' will be like a smart card and auto drivers will be given those cards on filling a form which will be issued by the Transport Department. In the first phase, around 30,000 auto drivers will be given ‘more cards’.
