Within a span of 24 hours, two minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted by their own kin in different parts of the national Capital. While the first incident took place in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area where a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her cousin, in the second incident, an 8-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 55-year-old uncle at his residence in Old Delhi’s Chandni Mahal area.
According to a senior police officer, the incident took place on Tuesday evening and was reported on the next day when the minor girl disclosed about the matter to her grandmother who took her to the police station.
As per the minor girl, on Tuesday evening at around 4.30 pm, her grandmother had asked her to get some household items from a nearby shop. While heading towards the shop, the minor girl’s 17-year-old cousin met her and told her that his mother is calling her.
Not knowing that the juvenile’s family was not at home, the minor girl went along. The juvenile sexually assaulted her and threatened of dire consequences if she tell anyone about the incident and dropped her back to her house.
The girl, who lives with her mother, grandmother and younger brother finally opened up about the assault and narrated about the ordeal to her grandmother.
Based on the minor girl’s complaint, police registered a case under sections of rape and POCSO Act at the Mangolpuri.
In the second incident, an 8-year-old girl was allegedly brutally raped by her uncle while her parents were away at her work in Central Delhi’s Chandni Mahal area.
Police said that they had received a complaint from the mother of the victim that on June 4, she noticed injury marks on the legs of her daughter while she was sleeping.
She informed her husband about the same who suggested that their daughter has been assaulted. Upon hearing the wails of the mother, the girl woke up.
The mother questioned her daughter about the injuries in her private parts. Scared, the minor girl did not disclose anything. On much persistence, she disclosed that a 55-year-old uncle who comes at the maternal grandparents house often exploited her and threatened to kill her 2-year-old brother if she disclosed about the incident to anyone.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under sections of rape and POCSO Act at the Chandni Mahal police station.
Police on Thursday said that they had arrested the uncle, identified as Amir Khan alias Bablu. Further investigation is underway.
