The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 35-year-old criminal, along with his associate, in national Capital. The duo are previously involved in more than 85 cases of dacoity, robbery, snatching, extortion, kidnapping, attempt to murder, assault on police, hurt and arms act. Police have also recovered two country made semi-automatic pistol with 8 cartridges from the possession of the accused.
The accused has been identified as Shakeel Ahmad (35) a resident of Nand Nagar, Delhi and his associate is identified as Rashid alias Sonu (28) a resident of Delhi’s Trilok Puri. Both were arrested by the police from their rented house in Shahin Bagh, Jamia Nagar in South-east Delhi. Shakeel was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 in a case of armed dacoity committed on September 17 last year in Jagatpuri area.
According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, on April 2, specific inputs were received that Shakeel along with his associate Rashid would come to their rented house in Shahin Bagh following which a trap was laid and accused were apprehended.
“During interrogation, Shakeel disclosed that he along with Rashid and other associate had also burgled the house of the famous poet Ashok Chakradhar in the area of Sarita Vihar and took cash and valuables from the house, but his awards and medals luckily remained intact. They also disclosed their involvement in several other cases,” said the DCP.
“Shakeel was previously arrested in 25 cases of robbery and dacoity, 20 cases of snatching, five cases of assault on the police and many other cases of kidnapping, extortion, criminal intimidation, arms act and NDPS act. Shakeel had started his criminal career in the year 2000. Since then, he has been continuously committing crime. He was also declared as a proclaimed offender in cases pertaining to assault on police and was lured into the crime world by his brother-in-law gangster Satyaprakash,” said the DCP.
“Accused Rashid during interrogation disclosed that he is previously involved in more than 15 cases of murder, dacoity, arms act, rape and burglary. Last year, on July 23, Rashid, along with his other associates, had killed one Akash in Mayur Vihar area. He is also involved in allegedly raping a minor girl in the same area. He is previously involved in more than 15 cases,” the DCP said.
