Invisibility due to foggy weather also claimed two lives in neighbouring Gurgaon, while seven others, including a woman and an infant, were critically injured when a speeding car rammed into another car on the IFFCO Chowk flyover on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday. Police said eight employees of the Hero Moto Corp company were going to their Gurgaon office from Delhi. They stopped the car on the flyover after one of them complained of uneasiness. In the meantime, another car coming from Delhi rammed into the parked vehicle from behind due to fog. The impact was so hard that two of the victims died on the spot, while others are recuperating at various hospitals.
A senior police officer said that the deceased were identified as Ganesh (24) and Vineet (25), residents of Swaroop Nagar in North Delhi. “The driver of the second car is a resident of Gurgaon. He, along with his wife and one-and-a-half-year daughter, besides four others in the other car, suffered serious injuries,” the officer added.
Some passersby made a call to the police control room and the victims were taken to a nearby hospital where Ganesh and Vineet were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the next of kin intimated. The other victims have been admitted in nearby private hospitals and are undergoing treatment. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered at the concerned police station against the unidentified person and police have started their investigation but are still waiting to record the statement of the victims.
