The Delhi Police has arrested a 28-year-old pickpocket and apprehended a 16-year-old girl for allegedly trying to kill another teenager in South-East Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area.

The accused has been identified as Ashwani Kumar (28) alias Anuwa. He has around 14 cases registered against him at various police stations. The victim, a 17-year-old girl, who is admitted at Max Hospital, is still battling for her life.

A police team was constituted to apprehend the accused and raids were conducted at possible hideouts. “To earn easy money, he used to accompany juveniles and was also involved in pickpocketing. He threatened the victims by his country-made pistol,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East district Dr. P Karunakaran.

Both the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. The country-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession. “An empty shell was also recovered from the crime,” spot he further added.
