A gang of cheats who targeted hardware shops and gyms using digital payment system has been arrested from Mewat by New Friends Colony police.

The accused allegedly posed as clients and used their Paytm accounts to shop online, police revealed Monday.

Two persons identified as Islamudden (20) and Wasim (26) were arrested and a juvenile has been apprehended in this connection. Police recovered seven MI mobile phones, other accessories from the same company and eight trolleys which they purchased through online cheating, police said.

“On October 26, 2018, a complaint was received at New Friends Colony police station regarding two suspicious transactions from one Vishesh Aggarwal’s Paytm account stating that, he received a call from a customer, who wished to buy some hardware articles from his shop and sought his Paytm details, however, instead of transferring money, it was deducted from his account instead,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal.

“During investigation of the case, police team investigated the online trail and was able to track a delivery from MI Company, which the accused persons bought using the victim’s Paytm and it was scheduled to be delivered at Near Petrol Pump in Tawadu of Mewat district,” said the DCP

“A trap was laid on October 27, and one Islamudden was arrested, who disclosed his colleagues Wasim and the juvenile. Wasim was arrested and during interrogation, he revealed that he scouted for his targets on Google and targeted only hardware shops and gymnasiums.

“They then called the targets in pretext of buying articles and assured them that he will pay them through Paytm and asked for their Paytm account details,” disclosed the DCP.
