Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested the 32-year-old manager of an ashram run by jailed godman Rampal in Outer Delhi for alleged negligence, a day after two of the godman’s followers died while manually cleaning a septic tank there.

One of the godman’s followers who entered the tank was also taken ill and he has been put on ventilator at a hospital, police said. Police is yet to record his statement.

Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said, “Chand Rathi (32), a resident of Jhajjar has been arrested from the ashram in Mundka area.”

“During the course of investigation, we found that Rathi, who was overseeing the cleaning of the septic tank, did not ensure that adequate safety precautions were taken,” he added.

Police are also probing whether other people were also present around the septic tank at the time of the incident.

On Monday evening, Amarjeet (30) and Makhan lal (27) had descended into the 90-foot-deep tank to clean it, but the toxic gas inside the tank resulted in their death.

Mukesh (25) climbed down the tank to rescue them, but he too lost consciousness, police said.

A case was registered for culpable homicide not amounting to murder at the Mundka Police Station.
