2 Cong MlAs apprise Sonia of Delhi's political scenario

Amid the talk of Delhi Congress MlAs shifting their allegiance to the BJP, Delhi Congress MlA from Seelampur Choudhury Mateen Ahmed called on party president Sonia Gandhi.

He reportedly implored the Congress president to bring former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit into Delhi politics and to fight the next Assembly elections in Delhi under her leadership. Dikshit is currently the Governor of Kerala. Sources said that the party president had also reported to have sought clarification over some of the sitting Congress MlAs shifting their allegiance to the BJP to form Government in the national Capital.

The meeting with two Congress MlAs Mateen Ahmed and Asif Mohammed Khan from Okhla with Congress president raised question over intense infighting in Delhi unit of the party. Ahmed told The Pioneer that he, along with MlA from Okhla Asif Mohammed Khan, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the present political scenario in Delhi.

According to Ahmed, the Congress president has also sought clarification regarding the rumours of some party MlAs defecting from the party. Ahmed said that he has told Gandhi that some leaders in Pradesh Congress are fuelling these rumours.

Recently, there were reports of resentment within the party with talks of a section of its MlAs breaking away to either form a new party or joining the BJP to form Government in Delhi. The move is seen important because even as the party leadership is trying to bring young blood into its fold, it is facing resistance from traditional loyalists, who are still pitching for the old guard to save from another defeat the party may face in the forthcoming polls.
