Two Afghan nationals have been arrested for smuggling banned drugs into India and 50 kg heroin was seized from them. Their arrest came in the wake of the recovery of 150 kg of heroin and arrest of the members of a drug cartel.
The two identified as Mohmmad Akbar (45) and Nedfa Mohammad (38) are from Kandahar and Helmand provinces in Afghanistan and smuggled the drugs into the country via the Attari-Wagah border between India and Pakistan. Last week, police arrested two Afghans identified as Shinwari Rehmat Gul (30), Akhtar Mohammad Shinwari (31) and three others with 150 kg Afghani heroin worth Rs 600 crore in market
According to Manishi Chandra, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special cell, based upon the revelations of arrested accused Rehmat Gul, a raid was conducted at a cold storage plant in Kondli, Sonipat.
"There, two more Afghan nationals were found and upon pointed interrogations, they led the police team to 102 cartons of raisins (kish-mish). These marked cartons were interspersed amongst a consignment of over 600 cartons which had arrived in India from the Attari-Wagah border check post in the month of March 2019.
The point of loading was Kandahar, a highly disturbed city of Southern Afghanistan," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police .
"These cartons were
carrying raisins, with the Exporter being Mohammad Akbar Afghani Limited, Kandahar and the importer being a firm based out of Delhi. When these cartons were carefully examined, a total of 204 poly-pouches were recovered, neatly concealed between two layers of carton casing cardboard," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
"Preliminary interrogation has revealed that the arrested accused Akbar is himself the proprietor of the exporter firm that is Mohammad Akbar Afghani Limited and has been in the trade for over three years.
It is possible that once his consignment had landed at Delhi, he followed it by flight to secure the marked cartons for extracting the concealed Heroin which would have then been passed on the recently busted cartel operating out of Zakir Nagar for onward trade and consumption," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
"However, the accused Neda Mohammad arrived in Delhi separately and was assisting Akbar Afghani in handling the precious cargo.
Both the operatives are hardened members of the narco-syndicate and assistance of Pashto-Dari translators is being taken to understand their narrative," said the DCP adding that both the arrested accused have been produced before the concerned Court and their Police Custody Remand has been obtained.
