Scores of Sikhs and supporters of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Thursday staged a protest outside the headquarters of the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) against its move to file a closure report, giving clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 riots case. The protesters gathered outside the CBI headquarters around 4 pm and raised slogans against the premier investigating agency and accused both the agency and the Congress of shielding Tytler.
Water cannons had to be used by the Delhi Police to disperse the protesters who tried to break their barricades but a few from the angry crowd still managed to reach the main gate of CGO complex. A number of protesters, including DSGMC president, general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa and former MlAs Harmeet Singh Kalka and Jatinder Singh Shanty, were also taken to lodhi Police Station but released later in the evening.
DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said that the clean chit to Tytler was atrocious, given in the most arbitrary manner. He also alleged that the CBI, at the behest of the Congress party, never conducted a thorough investigation in the case. “It is really painful that even 30 years after the genocide, justice to Sikhs is still a distant dream,” said DSGMC president. He demanded from the court to deliver justice to Sikhs by rejecting the closure report and asking the CBI to make Tytler face trial.
