A 19-year-old man has been arrested for killing his live-in partner over suspicion of  her talking to other men in the locality. According to police, the accused identified as Imran, was arrested from the Yamuna bus depot in Bhajanpura.

Accroring to police, the murder was reported in Northwest Delhi's Subhash Place area on March 31.

Investigation revealed that the accused was living with a woman who hailed from Nepal. The accused had strangled her to death inside their house in Shakurpur and then repeatedly hit her with a stand on March 31.

“The woman was found in a pool of blood. The accused had collected his belongings and was on the run,” said Dr A K Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East). Imran is addicted to smack and does odd jobs and commits theft to fuel his drug habit, Singla said.

When the accused was questioned, he had confessed to his involvement in the crime. The accused had come in contact with the girl around one year ago.

“They had met at a club in Netaji Subhash Place. The two of them had fallen in love and were in a relationship. Eventually they decided to move in together,” said a police officer.

The woman used to live with her elder sister in Shakurpur village and stopped living with their family. “The two women were not in touch with the family. They used to have a strained relationship. Imran had moved in along with another person, Sahil.

However, the accused started to doubt the woman's intentions when she started to interact with other people in the locality,” the officer said.

Imran would fight with his girl friend on several occasions. On the evening of March 31, the accused had another confrontation with his girl friend over the same issue. The confrontation soon turned violent leading to the woman's murder.
