181 poll bullies given the heave-ho

The ‘bad characters’, with history of nuisance and intimidating voters, listed with the Delhi Police have been shunted out of the city in view of polling on December 4. This has been done to ensure free and fair elections. The Delhi Police identified 181 bad characters from all the eleven districts across the Capital and banished them from Delhi as they are habitual offenders.

The ‘bad characters’, during elections, may pressurise voters to vote for a specific party. The agenda is to keep them out of the Capital from a period of six months to two years. In layman’s parlance they are on tadipar— referred to as banishing someone, who is considered politically undesirable, from a region or district.

In the list of 181 such people — prepared by the Delhi Police — North, North-West, South and West districts had no potential trouble makers. North-East district has the maximum number of the troublemakers at 101, followed by Outer district which has 32 people and then by the East district which has 26 potentional troublemakers.

South-East district has only three ‘bad characters’. Taking the case of East district a woman ‘bad character’, who is engaged in drug peddling and operates in Jagatpuri and Shakarpur area, is also among those being banished.
