Eighteen months have passed yet the police have not arrested the main accused who killed my son in broad daylight,” laments 62-year-old Satya Prakash, father of 26-year-old Nikhil Prakash who was shot dead by a group of 10 men near Rampal Chowk in Dwarka.
Satya Prakash said, “My son was shot dead for no reason. On February 1, 2016 at around 1.41 pm, he got a call from a friend and left home. The friend took him on a scooty to an isolated spot where he was fired at. Hours later, we were informed that a group of 8 to 10 men at the behest of Nikhil’s friend had called him to an isolated spot in Dwarka. Suspecting Nikhil to be an eyewitness in the murder of a local criminal in the area, the main accused along with Nikhil’s friend took Nikhil to an isolated place where they murdered him.”
My son had got married just six months before his death. After which, he had shifted to Dwarka Sector-7 area with his wife. Not knowing that his neighbours belonged to criminal background, the relatives of the neighbours purely on suspicion murdered him,” said Satya Prakash, who runs a ready-made garments business.
Initially, the Delhi Police had registered a case at the Sector-9 Dwarka Police station. Over the next few months, they had arrested three of the accused but the main accused are still at large.
Moreover, citing police apathy, Satya Prakash said, “The local police kept on harassing us. It was only earlier this year that they returned the personal belongings of my son. Moreover, police have still not recorded the statements of the key eyewitnesses.
Despite repeated calls and text messages to the area DCP, senior police officer of the Southwest district remained unavailable for comment.
