A 17-year-old girl, who was shot at her Dakshinpuri house area on Tuesday night, is battling for life at Max Hospital in Saket. The accused, who took umbrage to her slapping his girlfriend, shot at her neck.

According to the family members of the victim, she is critical and has bleak chances of survival. Moreover, piling up hospital dues are adding to the family's woes. "They had asked us to pay Rs 50, 000 on Tuesday. We don't have so much money. We told the hospital staff and they asked us to speak to a doctor regarding the issue," said Shahnaz, victim's mother. The girl is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and on ventilator. The victim's father claimed that police did not visit them ever since they left the girl at the hospital. "He stated that AIIMS Trauma Centre could also provide better treatment and would suit their pocket as well. My daughter is young and she has just one per cent chance of survival," said Shafiq Khan, father of the girl.

Recalling the incident, Shanaz claimed that her daughter generally went to pick up her younger sisters around 12:30 pm from the school. On Tuesday, she had a minor scuffle and slapped a friend of hers. "I received a call around 1:30 pm from the accused, who said that my daughter did not do the right thing by slapping her friend. And that today I will have to face the consequences," said the mother.

The door of the house located on the first floor is generally open. The accused with another unidentified man came to the house, while the friend who was slapped by the victim stood downstairs. "He entered the house and demanded to speak to my daughter. I told him not to create a scene. I was washing the clothes and my daughter was going to cook. It was around 8:45pm. Suddenly, he asked his associate to take out the pistol which was hid in his pants. The accused took the gun and fired a round at my daughter's neck and fled his bike," she added.
