A 17-year-old girl, who had gone missing on Thursday morning, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her male friend’s rented flat in Outer Delhi’s Rohini on Thursday evening. Prima facie, it appears to be a suicide case since there are ligature marks on the girl’s neck and police have also recovered a suicide note from her possession where she mentioned that she wanted to tell lot of things to her lover but he did not have time for her.

On Friday morning, locals staged a protest outside the Rohini and Mangolpuri police station, alleging that police delay in investigation led to the girl’s death and they attacked two Delhi Transport Corporation buses. A case of rioting has been registered. No one was injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, after the initial investigation, the police have arrested the 20-year-old friend of the victim, Arif who takes tuitions and also works at his father’s flour mill in Mangolpuri area, where the victim also resided.

Police said that the incident came to light on Thursday evening when the Class XII student went to school but did not return home. Her parents approached the police and based on their complaint, a case was registered under section 363 (abduction) at Mangolpuri police station.

But within hours, investigators were informed by the friend of the victim that she hanged herself in his rented accommodation in the Rohini area. “Around 8 pm, police received a PCR call at Rohini (South) police station where the caller had informed them the girl had committed suicide at a rented accommodation in Rohini’s sector-2. A police team rushed to the spot and found the girl lying on the bed, ligature marks on her neck and a rope on the side, with some blood found trickling from her nose and mouth,” the officer added.

After recovering the body, police traced the caller from which the PCR call was made and found that the call was made by Arif. He arrested under Section 363 and 376.

“Arif told the police that the victim was in a relationship with him. Around a year and a half ago, he had taken up the rented flat for their meetings. She came at her room on Thursday morning around 7.30 am,” the officer added.
