If you have been whining about the non-functional escalators or the hygiene standards of the toilets at various Metro stations, you can find some improvement within a few days. In a commuter-friendly move, the Transport Department on Tuesday constituted eight teams to inspect the operational Metro stations for public facilities such as security arrangements, smart card recharge facilities and cleanliness.

Apart from this, nine teams have also been constituted to inspect the condition of bus shelters in the city. The teams have to submit their reports within ten days.

The drive to inspect the Metro stations and bus shelters has started from Wednesday. A senior Delhi Government official said, “Eight teams headed by a Deputy Commissioner and two staff members will carry out the inspection of all the operational Metro stations. The parameters include security arrangements, ticketing or smart card charging arrangements at the stations, cleanliness and sanitation, display of public related information, and working condition of the escalators and lifts and parking arrangements. The teams have been allotted a fixed number of Metro stations to inspect, post which they have to prepare the report.”

Officials of the Transport Department have to inspect thoroughly the condition of 58 Metro stations, which were constructed during Phase I and another 84 Metro stations constructed during Phase II of Delhi Metro construction. These Metro stations fall on the operational Delhi Metro corridors — including Jahangirpuri to Huda City Centre, Noida City Centre/Vaishali to Dwarka Sector 21, Central Secretariat to Badarpur, Dishad Garden to Rithala and Mundka to

Kirti Nagar.

Apart from Metro lines, the teams have also been handed over the responsibility to inspect bus shelters across the city. The condition of most of the bus shelters were found to be pathetic and neglected by the authorities, during a reality check by ‘The Pioneer’.
