At least 16 senior officers have been found misusing garages in Rabindra Nagar and Chanakyapuri in Delhi. The Ministry of Urban Development has issued notices against subletting of General Pool Residential Accommodation and Garage and misuse of garages by the allottees. The allotments would be cancelled if unauthorised use of garages is not stopped.
Sources said that officials of the Directorate of Estates inspected 19 garages in Rabindra Nagar and 11 in Chanakyapuri last week and found 11 in Rabindranagar and five in Chanakyapuri being used for other purposes in violation of the rules. “The 16 allottees have been served with notices stating that if compliance with the rules is not ensured in 15 days, their allotment of Government accommodation would be cancelled,” said the sources.
“It is also found that some of the allottees of General Pool Residential Accommodation use the garage for purposes other than what they have been provided to them. This also gives rise to unhygienic atmosphere and may involve antisocial elements in the Government colonies and thus, pose security threats,” the notices said.
