Cracking the whip on the violators, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Friday slapped show-cause notices to 15
hospitals and malls in East Delhi area for charging parking fees despite a public notice issued by the corporation, said an official.
“As per the public notice issued by EDMC, malls and hospitals are not allowed to charge any parking fee. Notices have been issued to them for charging despite the notices issued by EDMC and Delhi High Court,” said a senior EDMC official.
According to the official, apart from not providing free charging, the hospitals and malls were also charging higher than usual.
“EDMC charges Rs 20 per hour for parking in areas falling under its jurisdiction. These hospitals and malls were charging rates according to their footfall which were higher than usual and were highly commercial,” the official said.
The places that have been issued the notices include Cross River Mall (Shahdara), Aditya Mega Mall (Shahdara), Parsvnath Mall (Shahdara), V3S Mall (Laxmi Nagar), Star City Mall (Mayur Vihar Phase-I), Shakti Mukund Hospital (Dayanand Vihar), Dharamshila Hospital (Vasundhara Enclave), Max Hospital (Patparganj), and Metro Hospital (Preet Vihar).
The corporation has asked the organisations to reply within one week, the official added.
“If the response is found unsatisfactory, a demanding notice will be sent to the places further. Also, sealing can be done if the violators fail to justify themselves,” the official further said.
Bipin Bihari Singh, Mayor of East Delhi also said that in case the response was found unsatisfactory, strict action would be taken against the defaulters.
