A 40-year-old woman, identified as Sheila from Etawah district, was allegedly raped and murdered with her throat slit in a rented accommodation in Noida’s Sector 22 on Friday morning. Police said the woman had befriended a man in the Capital a fortnight ago. He had purportedly claimed the woman was his wife to his landlord and he brought her to the city for medical treatment. Police suspect the hand of the ‘husband’ in the alleged rape and murder since he has been absconding ever since.
According to police, Ramniwas Sharma (45), a resident of Modinagar, had taken a flat in Chaura area since November 2013 and was living alone. last week, he informed his landlord Dharamveer Singh he had brought his ailing wife for medical care. When the landlord’s attempts to collect rent proved futile, he decided to let himself into the house he had leased out. He discovered Ramniwas’ wife in a pool of blood. Ramniwas was called but his mobile was switched off. The landlord informed police and the body was sent for an autopsy.
