Asserting the need for enactment of globally applicable laws, Chief Justices and Judges from 51 countries got together for the 14th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World.
In the first leg of the meet, the team visited the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Thursday morning, to mark the beginning of the conference which aimed to bring all countries of the world under one strong law to resolve the issues amicably.
Offering wreaths at the Samadhi, the Chief Justices and judges from countries like Egypt, Guyana and 50 other countries, along with a former judge of Gujarat High Court AS Qureshi, discussed the need to enforce an international law to have one system of delivery of justice for all countries in the world.
“There are conflicts of ideas and interests in various countries and it is extremely difficult to achieve the aim of enforcing international law for all countries, but it is not impossible,” said former judge Qureshi.
Highlighting the need for creation of a World Parliament and the formation of a World Government, Justice Adel Omar Sherif, Deputy Chief Justice, Egypt said, that to strengthen the world judicial system, it is important to have a legally constituted and democratically elected world parliament with representatives for all countries.
“All countries must shed off a part of their sovereignty to come under the umbrella of the world parliament. It is the only way to prevent innocents from being mercilessly slaughtered in brutal wars,” he said.
The judges who came to attend this five-day conference, met President Pranab Mukherjee in the evening and concluded the day. The conference will go on till December 17.
