The 13-year-old gang-rape victim, who had attempted suicide at her residence in Farsh Bazar two weeks ago, has once again tried to commit suicide after consuming an overdose of medicines on late Sunday night at AIIMS, said her relatives. She is stated to be in a stable condition and had recorded her statement in her mother’s mobile, minutes before she attempted the suicide where she claimed that she was not able to bear the humiliation and she felt disgusting when people asked her different types of question.
The girl was brought to the AIIMS from Hedgewar Hospital on April 22, after she had taken an overdose of sleeping pills following her gang-rape during nine days of captivity by the attackers. “Around 2 am on Monday, she consumed the overdose of medicines,” the victim’s sister said.
Police sources said that the victim first consumed medicines and then locked her inside the washroom. Hospital authorities then jumped inside the washroom from the wall and open the door from inside. The victim’s mother claimed that the victim regularly used to talk about how she would face people after she was discharged.
“My cell-phone was with her and she has narrated her tale of trauma after using the voice recorder. She has wished her siblings and said she won’t be able to live with this stigma. She was going to die,” said the victim’s mother. On March 15, the 13-year-old victim and her 12-year-old brother were abducted by two men known to her, from outside her house and taken to loni in Ghaziabad where they raped her in front of her brother. After nine days, she managed to escape from the clutches of the accused persons and of the eight accused, seven have been arrested.
