Twelve schoolchildren and four teachers of Vishwa Bharti Public School were injured on Monday afternoon in Greater Noida. The accident occurred when their school bus hit the divider in Surajpur area. One of them — whose hand had to be amputated — has been referred to the AIIMS Trauma Centre due to his critical condition; others have been reported as stable.
Police said the incident took place around 2 pm when their bus, heading towards Noida’s Phase-II, hit the divider and turned turtle near Crowne Plaza shopping mall. “Two Class VIII students, Himanshu and Prince, along with their teachers Sween, Archana, Ranjana and Anjumala, were admitted to Kailash Hospital where Himanshu’s right hand was amputated due to severe injuries and was later referred to AIIMS,” said Anurag Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Greater Noida.
Sushil Sharma, hospital manager, said that Himanshu (13) and Prince (14) were admitted to the ICU. Himanshu was taken to a hospital in New Delhi due to his deteriorating condition. Prince, however, is still recuperating and will be discharged soon. “The victims are severely injured,” said Sharma.
Meanwhile, some angry parents held a protest against the school authorities and asked the district administration to take stringent action against those guilty. “The accident took place due to ill-preparedness of the school authorities and district administration,” said an irate parent. Total 40 students, between 10 to 16 years, along with half dozen teachers were travelling in the bus.
Jaipal Singh, Greater Noida magistrate, said that the administration has ordered to register an FIR against those guilty persons.“We have contacted the school administration to know details about the driver. We are also checking whether the school administration followed prescribed norms before appointing the driver or not,” said Singh.Earlier in January, 12 students of Army Public School in Noida also met with a similar accident when their bus collided with a speeding truck.
