The Delhi Traffic Police has booked about 100 people and impounded their driving licences during “Operation Chakravyuh” that has been launched to discipline drunken driving.
A posse of men and officers of Delhi Traffic Police carried out operation in upmarket Hauz Khas Village in South Delhi to rein in the people driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the prescribed limit. In order to deal with violators in the stringent manner, traffic police is also requesting the Trial Courts to send these violators behind bars.
Dr. Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner Traffic said, “DCP/Traffic (Southern Range) Harendra K Singh oversaw the Operation Chakravyuh and all the entry and exit points of Hauz Khas village were put under surveillance. A team of more than 50 traffic police personnel including ACP, Traffic Inspector and Zonal Officers were part of the operation.”
“Friday and Saturday being the most frequented days in the Hauz Khas Village, the drive resulted into prosecution of more than 100 people. Most of the violators were youth. Many of them coming from rich and affluent families, tried their best to invoke their relations with mighty and influential people of the power corridor, but the traffic police did not budge and prosecuted all these people,” said the Special CP.
The Delhi Traffic Police is gearing to launch such drives to contain the drivers driving under the influence of alcohol during the coming festival and especially during the night preceding the New Year celebrations.
