Allegations over the use of “abusive language and obscene remarks” against family members of officials working in Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on a ‘WhatsApp’ group landed 10 commercial pilots employed with leading domestic airlines in trouble on Tuesday. The complaint has been made at the lodhi Road Police Station.
The Jet Airways Pilots were questioned by the police but no FIR or arrest has been made in the matter.
According to a senior police officer, the civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) filed a complaint against 34 pilots, of whom 10 were summoned for questioning.
“We have received a complaint by DGCA and are examining the matter. No arrest has been made yet,” additional deputy commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said, adding that the questioning took place on Tuesday afternoon.
“The pilots have been called in for questioning on the basis of a complaint by the DGCA. They have been called in for an inquiry,” said the additional DCP.
The pilots were in the Capital after they were directed by the DGCA to appear before it on Tuesday, after its Joint Director General took offence at not being addressed with the correct designation in a letter written by them to him.
Sources said the DGCA official suspended the ten pilots from flying duties and asked the airline to check their “mental alertness” since “they could not even quote a designation properly”. The DGCA is said to have submitted a “screen shot” of the usage of objectionable, obscene language to the police.
“The text used in the message was highly objectionable, unpardonable and obscene language was used against family members of DGCA officials,” a senior DGCA official said.
