The one-way traffic plan implemented at two major arteries of Noida from January 23 faces threat as violations have started increasing.
Police have also become laid-back in implementing the scheme after protests by some shopkeepers whose “illegal” shops were demolished to clear the roads of the encroachment.
Maximum violations took place by vehicles entering from 45 radial roads that connect with arteries and police have failed to control them.
The one-way traffic plan was launched by Noida administration at Udyog Marg and Bash Bali market Noida sector-5 marg as an experiment to ease traffic on arteries. While these key roads have become smooth, but the vehicles were found piling up at the connecting peripheral roads like sector-10, 11, 12 and Sector-4, 15 Golchakkar. Also, with lack of enforcement in recent days, people continued to violate the plan despite one way boards, signs and signals.
However, commuters are largely pleased with the plan that provides them smooth drive but they are facing trouble while going towards radial roads.
The Noida Police has deployed 70 police personnel, outsourced from other districts, to regulate traffic.
Meanwhile, some locals are upset due to losing their shops that were being operated illegally for the last 30 years. They have been protesting to get their shops back at the same place or other place.
