Yet again tension gripped in Bawana after the area witnessed two gang wars in past 24 hours. In the first incident, a 49- year-old gangster, Manoj Sehrawat was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailants in Bawana on Wednesday evening. Earlier on Tuesday, a 34-year-old man was shot twice in his stomach by some criminals while he was going to the market on his scooty in Rohini’s Bawana area.

The victim was recently out on bail. According to a senior police official, the incident occurred around at 7:30 pm on Wednesday evening when Manoj was walking towards Bawana chowk, some unidentified assailants came and shot him in his head.

"Police was informed by locals regarding the incident following which a team rushed to the spot. Manoj was lying in a pool of blood on road. He was taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead," said the senior police official.

"During initial investigation, it was revealed that he was shot over a dispute among family over a plot. Police are also not rulling out the angle of gangwar," said the senior police official adding that further investigation is going.

Shehrawat alias Sanjay had two cases under TADA, apart from several others including kidnapping and extortion. In 1994, he had kidnapped two daughters of a UP MLA, one of whom he later married. The other married an aide of his, Jagmal. He was suspected to have killed Jagmal and his wife.

In another incident a 34- year-old man was shot twice in his stomach by some criminals while he was going to the market on his scooty in Rohini's Bawana area. Police, however, have ruled out any link to gang rivalry and claimed reason of personal enmity with assailants.

The man has been identified as Monu, a resident of Wajidpur village in Bawana who also has some criminal cases against him, including a case of attempt to murder. The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed near the crime spot.

It is believed that the rival gang members opened fire at him on Tuesday afternoon. The man was shot in full public view and was hit by two bullets as he fell down. According to a senior police official, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at around 1:30 pm when Monu was on his way to market on his scooty in Bawana area.

"Suddenly, four armed assailants travelling in a car overtook him on his way and set opened fired on him. The assailants hit two bullets in Monu's abdomen and fled from the spot. The injured collapsed on road in a pool of blood," said the senior police official.

"He was rushed to a nearby hospital by locals and police were informed by the doctors. The victim was operated upon and is still under observation in ICU," said the senior police official. A case has been registered under section 307/34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arms act at Bawana police station.
