At least 1,578 patients have been benefitted Ayushmann Bharat Scheme alone in All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS). According to data provided by AIIMS official, on average 30 to 35 new patients get treatment every day.  Out of this, eight to ten patients are undergoing surgery for various complications. Currently, 72 patients are being treated in different departments under the scheme at the hospital, he said.

At least 40 patients visited the hospital on July 23 and their treatment was started under the scheme. Out of this, surgery was done to nine patients in the same day and10 patients were discharged after treating them,” according to sources in AIIMS.

A total of 72 patients have been admitted right now in the hospital under Ayushman Bharat scheme. Out of these, 13 patients have been admitted in Cardiac Center, 17 in neuro center, 22 in main AIIMS, 10 in RP Center and 10 patients in cancer center.

The hospital administration said that a help desk is set up in hospital premises to facilitate the patients. “We check whether the patient name is registered under the scheme or not. Treatment started soon after completing some of the formalities,” it said.

As per the information, till date, 12,528 patients have visited the hospital for treatment under the scheme. Of this, cards have been issued to 5087 patients for treatment. So far 1189 patients have been treated with surgery, while 389 people have been admitted and treated under medical management. In this way, a total of 1578 people have been benefitted from this scheme. Most importantly, poor patients are getting bigger surgery like heart, neuro, cancer, and eye.

Commenting on this, a doctor associated with the scheme at AIIMS said that this scheme is certainly not less than a boon for the poor. After many years waiting, people get the number of surgeries in AIIMS but their surgery cannot be done as they fail to deposit money on time. Now they do not have such problems as they are getting the best care absolutely free.

Even though the scheme could not be implemented in Delhi but still poor people from across the country are benefiting from it.  Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, saying the Delhi government’s health scheme is “ten times bigger and comprehensive” than the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat programme.
